Loupe-Kanbanboard

Get projects make faster and organize what you know artists need.

Loupe helps production teams understand what artists need, prioritize what to animate next, and align everyone around the roadmap.

The Kanban board helps the animation production team to manage about 400~500 artist tasks in order to produce animations in a timely manner. With tools like status, comment, notification, and media review, loupe continues to expand its feature suite for animation production.

PROBLEM STATEMENT

Empower our users to use kanban board in the way they want, while making it simple, meaningful and uncomplicated to use.
We are currently experiencing difficulties in project progress due to lack of communication and task management with many artists. As a result, the pipelines don’t work smoothly and efficiently. We were able to find the problem in more detail through user research.

Lack of basic features and design

Production teams create and share a large amount of data for producing an animation. However, not everyone on the team needs to see all of the data, they just need to see the amount of data they need for their work. Currently, there are not enough features that allow the production teams to freely control the data and see the specific data they want to. So they're wasting a lot of time looking for or organizing data.

Difficulty in understanding the overall situation

Production teams create and share a large amount of data for producing an animation. However, not everyone on the team needs to see all of the data, they just need to see the amount of data they need for their work. Currently, there are not enough features that allow the production teams to freely control the data and see the specific data they want to. So they're wasting a lot of time looking for or organizing data.

Unintuitive user flow

Production teams often switch between two or three projects during the work. And, they spend an unnecessary amount of energy while going through several steps to switch projects. This problem also makes it difficult for them to concentrate on work.

PERSONA

Kanban is used for different personas such as line producer, director, and artist. In addition to our direct users, each pipeline's leaders also belong to our user pool.
We are doing our best to provide the most necessary functions and various user experiences to users. However, even if a web app is unlimited in size and quantity, having dozens of features can overwhelm users. We research the time they spend using Kanban and the impact this project will have on them. This will help us set our goals for functionality and design accordingly.

PROCESS

We started the process with a comprehensive experience review of our current experiences

KEY TAKEAWAYS

Several workflows and experiences in the existing product scored very low as per our benchmarking.

We planned for an end-to-end visual and usability refresh to address dated UI design and make Kanban modern and delightful.

Systems and communication that are not integrated and seamless make the user's job more complex and difficult.

Very slow data loading times often disrupt people's workflow, resulting in very low work
rates.

PROCESS

Design Goal
The experience review also helped us define our focus areas for the redesign.

PROCESS

Wire-frame & Design ideas
In order to use the project's time efficiently, we started to find basic features through competitor research and create wire-frames.

Keep communicate with users and team members

After establishing a rough idea of how the kanbanbord will flow, I began building out quick wireframes to give team member and user a more accurate look at how the kanban board will work practically. And we focused on receiving feedback and improving through testing and discussion with them.

Improve user experience

We created a user flow map that shows, at a glance, the path a user takes to reach a specific goal. Also, this will help determine the information architecture.
We redesigned user flow to create a more efficient navigation system. Based on this, we designed buttons on the navigation panel, and users can switch between projects right away through them.

HIGHLIGHT

Each highlight captures an aspect of the new Kanban board experience. It calls out which design goal it adheres to, what user scenario or problem its solving and what the solution is.

Improved filter and sort system and added save view function.

We found a filter system, group function, and save functions through competitor research. We have modified and developed these features to make them more suitable for our users.

For example, users can use the filter system and group function to organize the data as desired. They can also save it as a view function and share it with other team members. This feature allows users to quickly share and view data as desired at any time without resetting the filter system and group functions.

Project switcher in primary navigation

We designed shortcuts between projects to create a more efficient navigation system. It was an important insight that users would like to see different projects on the same page (on the Kanban board).

Based on this, a shortcut was created to switch between projects by a one-click button on the navigation panel. A shortcut allows users to switch between projects with a drop-down box in the navigation panel. Through this functionality, users can switch directly to another project without going through multiple pages or wasting time.

Simpler, Clearer task creation across the kanban

We introduced better layout, logical grouping of similar & dependent controls, clearer copy and easier ways to configure across kanban for better edit and create experiences.

RESULT

After 3 months of internal testing we were able to get good results.
- Work 1.4x faster than before by reducing unnecessary work to complete projects on time.
- Departments can also design efficient work processes and create templates to reuse in future projects. This can cut setup time in half or more.
